My thoughts for DARE

My favourite DARE page

This is my favourite page in my DARE book. We did a programme with Constable Julie who taught us about drugs and we had a book full of all the sheets we did in the programme but this one is my favorite. I like this page the most because it is very colourful and has bright colours.

This course had a massive impact on me it told me who to hang out with and who not to hang out with. It also taught me to not take illegal drugs and what can happen to your body. Illegal drugs are in every high school and you might think its not but it is even in the very good schools and you most likely will be offered some.

If I didn't go through this course I seriously wouldn't know anything about drugs and wouldn't know how to say no. I am really really thankful foe Constable Julie coming in and teaching us about drugs and it was an amazing experience and hope a lot of other schools go through this programme because it can really save your life.

Words of wisdom- "Like attracts like", "Life is what's coming- not what was", The only real mistake is one from which you learn nothing".

When we finished the Dare programme we caught the bus to H2o extreme in Upper Hutt. All of the year 7 and 8's went on the bus and we all had a great time. We went to the pool because we had completed the DARE programme and Constable Julie took us and we had a lot of fun. This is a photo of me and some friends and Constable Julie in the backround.

Dare to make a choice

                                                     Dare to make a choice
Dare has been a very exciting learning experience so far. Something I have learnt today was that I never knew that chocolate had some drugs in it. I cant wait until our next session with Constable Julie our teacher. I really have started to enjoy the Dare program. Constable Julie is really funny and loves to joke around but also is teaching us some very important stuff for our future.

love letter

Dear Abby

Dear Abby.
I am in a extremely tough situation. You see, I love  a man called Romeo, but the problem is there are two main  families in in Verona, Italy, the Montagues and Capulets. We both hate each other like crazy. I am in the Capulets but my lover Romeo is in the Montagues, but I couldn’t hold back my love and we have married each other without any one knowing. Now my familie has set up an arranged marriage for me with a man known by the name of Paris. I feel like theres a hloe in my heart, which has been shreded in to peices. I don’t love Paris nor do I like him. I feel like i’m dying inside... I love Romeo please... help me.
From Juliet.

Dear Juliet
I see how you feel, and I must say your in quite a pickle. You really love Romeo and not Paris. I think you should keep it as a secret if you can but if you trust someone then it’s your decision to tell them or not. If your parents find out, you should run away with Romeo because your love can not be.
From Abby

My hypothesis

                                            My Hypothesis

I think the heavier objects will fall faster than the lighter objects because heavier objects usually have more mass per surface than lighter objects.

Equipment:

Stopwatch

10 different objects

Towels

Pen and paper (to write down results)

Instructions:

1. Pick 10 different objects.

2. Compare their size and weight.

3. Find a suitable height to drop your objects from i.e.: top of a building/garage.

4. Have your stopwatch ready to time your objects.

5. Write down the outcomes of your objects.

Planning A Fair Test:

The one factor I am going to change is the different type of objects .

The one factor I am going to keep the same is the height of the objects fall from.

Research:

In 1687, English mathematician Sir Isaac Newton published Principia, which explains the inverse square law of universal gravity. In his own words, “I deduced that the forces which keep the planets in their orbs must be reciprocally as the squares of their distances from the centres about which they revolve.

Gravity is one of the four fundamental interactions of nature along with electromagnetism, and nuclear strong force and weak force. Modern physics describes gravity using the general theory of gravity.

Te Whiti story

Te Whiti o Rongomai was born in the 1880s near Ngamotu, Taranaki. Te Whiti was the son of a minor chief of the Ngatai Tawhirikura branch. Te Whiti was educated at Reimenschneiders Mission School. He was excellent at bible studies. After he left school he set up a flour mill in Warea. Te Whiti and his family lived on the coast of Parihaka until 1865.
Te Whiti was a very spiritual man. He preached Christian beliefs. He didn’t believe in violence and was a very peaceful man.
By 1870 Parihaka was the biggest village in the country. Parihaka was a very peaceful place until 1879 when the Europeans invaded their land. When the Europeans were taking away the Maoris Te Whiti and Tohu stood up for their village and people, but were imprisoned afterwards. While Te Whiti was imprisoned he learnt how to use European technology and played mind games on the gaurds like putting sugar in their soup and salt in their porridge.
In 1883 Te Whiti was taken back to Parihaka, but refused an order from the soldiers to stop running the monthly meetings. For not obeying this order Te Whiti was taken back to prison a few days before Te Whiti was released his wife died and was not allowed to attend the funreal. After being released Te Whiti returned home. Parihaka is now a very nice place up by Tarinake with lighting, running water and drainage. Sadly Te Whiti died in 1907.
Te Whiti was a very inspirational person to me because he fought with no weapons and peacefully. He didn’t give up and got imprisoned twice. The first time he was imprisoned and was released and he still fought back at the Europeans.

Muhammad Ali

Muhammad Ali is we believe the best boxer of his generation. Muhammad Ali fought because his Dad loved boxing so he started at the age of 12. His real name is Cassias Clay but it was a slave name so he changed it to Muhammad Ali, which means beloved of the gods. He was born on 17 of January 1942 in the city of Louisville. He also went to Louisville high school. He was asked to join the military but refused to serve. Ali was a very religious and peaceful person so he did not want to do this.

Muhammad Ali turned professional when he was 18 and won his first match and first title. Muhammad had fought seventy-six matches, won fifty-six and won fifteen by default. In 1967 Muhammad was stripped of his boxing title by the professional boxing commission to not fight professionally for more than three years. He was also convicted for refusing to join the army and sentenced to five years in prison. Muhammad Ali was very inspiring to others. One of his quotes were float like a butterfly sting like a bee.I think this means to be light on you feet but be hard on your hands.

Ali changed his religion in 1964 to Islamic. He respects his religion and his people like no one else. But when he gets in the ring he’s an animal. Right now he is still alive with Parkinson's disease. Muhammad Ali is a hero and always will be.
